LIBRARY & LEARNING RESOURCE CENTRE

A Gateway to Knowledge, Imagination and Lifelong Learning

At St. Joseph's Public School, Baihata Chariali, we believe that a library is far more than a collection of books; it is a gateway to knowledge, a centre of exploration and a foundation for lifelong learning. We recognise that meaningful education extends beyond prescribed textbooks and classroom instruction. With this vision, our school library provides students with an enriching academic environment where curiosity is encouraged, imagination is nurtured, independent thinking is developed and the joy of reading is cultivated.

A Rich Collection of Knowledge and Literature

Our school library houses a diverse and thoughtfully organised collection of reading and reference materials catering to the varied academic interests, age groups and intellectual needs of our students. The collection includes encyclopaedias, reference books, academic publications, novels, fiction, non-fiction, biographies, literary works, informative articles, newspapers, magazines and other educational resources.

From discovering scientific developments and exploring historical events to understanding geographical concepts, appreciating literature and keeping up with current affairs, students are encouraged to explore a wide spectrum of subjects and perspectives.

The availability of varied reading materials enables learners to broaden their understanding, strengthen their vocabulary, improve language proficiency and develop the habit of seeking knowledge independently. Our library strives to create an atmosphere where every student can discover something meaningful to read, learn and explore.

Beyond Textbooks – Encouraging Independent Learning

At SJPS, we firmly believe that learning should never be confined to the boundaries of a syllabus. The library plays an important role in extending the educational experience beyond conventional classroom learning by encouraging students to read widely, investigate unfamiliar subjects, develop informed opinions and engage with ideas beyond their prescribed curriculum.

Through regular reading, reference-based learning and exposure to diverse educational resources, students are encouraged to develop essential intellectual skills, including critical thinking, comprehension, analytical ability, creativity and independent research.

Whether a student is exploring an encyclopaedia, reading a novel, following the latest news or discovering an unfamiliar subject, every interaction with knowledge contributes to a broader and more meaningful learning experience.

Developing a Culture of Reading and Knowledge

One of our key objectives is to cultivate a consistent reading habit among students from an early age. We encourage learners to make reading an integral part of their daily lives, not merely as an academic requirement but as an enjoyable and enriching activity.

Our library provides an environment where students can spend meaningful time reading, exploring literature, referring to educational materials and expanding their intellectual horizons. It also encourages the development of patience, concentration, imagination, communication skills and a deeper appreciation for language and literature.

We aim to nurture students who do not simply read to complete their lessons, but read to understand, question, discover and grow.

National Librarians' Day – Celebrating the Spirit of Knowledge

In recognition of the invaluable role of libraries and their contribution to education, St. Joseph's Public School celebrates National Librarians' Day on 12th August every year, commemorating the birth anniversary of Padma Shri Dr. S. R. Ranganathan, widely regarded as the Father of Library Science in India.

The occasion provides an opportunity to highlight the significance of libraries, encourage reading habits and inspire students to appreciate the importance of knowledge, information and continuous learning.

Through both physical and virtual celebrations, educational engagements and library-oriented activities, we endeavour to make the occasion meaningful and participatory. Students are encouraged to explore the world of books, appreciate the importance of reading and understand the role libraries play in shaping informed, thoughtful and responsible individuals.

These celebrations also serve as a reminder that libraries are not merely spaces for storing books, but dynamic centres of learning that connect individuals with knowledge and open doors to new possibilities.

A Space for Discovery, Growth and Inspiration

Our library stands as an important part of the school's educational environment, supporting academic development while encouraging curiosity, creativity and intellectual independence. It provides students with opportunities to explore interests beyond their regular subjects, discover new perspectives and develop an appreciation for knowledge in its many forms.

At St. Joseph's Public School, we aspire to create a generation of enthusiastic readers, independent thinkers and lifelong learners who recognise that education does not end with the completion of a textbook or a classroom lesson.

Because every book opens a new world, every page offers a new perspective, and every moment spent learning brings us closer to a brighter future.

At SJPS, we don't just encourage students to read books; we inspire them to discover the world through knowledge.
